Welcome to Jacobs Chapel United Methodist Church

A place you can call your spiritual home in New Albany, IN.  Here you are accepted, valued and embraced in Christian community through our Sunday morning worship and various other growing and serving opportunities.

Mission

The mission of the church is to be a witness in the world for the call of God to genuine community in the Body of Christ. This goal is not achieved unless the door is open for all people and thus the call of the church is to a community which is open to all and closed off to none. The church must be committed to this mission.

History

Early histories of Jacobs Chapel vary as to where the church actually started. Some state that worship was held in the homes of the founders. While other show that services were conducted in a log schoolhouse 1/3 to 1/2 of a mile west of the site where the church was first built. The histories do generally agree on the date of 1835 for the organization of the church

About Unite Methodist Church

United Methodists are people of God who, across the connection, share a common mission and values.

The United Methodist Church transcends geography, borders, barriers and differences.

Founded on a Wesleyan theology of grace, we are people of faith who experience and extend the love and grace of God as we serve our neighbors near and far.

United Methodists are anchored in Scripture and committed to a discipleship that is grounded in
the love, teachings and example of Jesus Christ.

The United Methodist Church is a diverse worldwide church serving all people where everyone belongs and can be fully included and regarded as God’s beloved.

As John Wesley said, “Though we cannot think alike, may we not love alike?
May we not be of one heart, though we are not of one opinion? Without all doubt, we may.”

We are moving forward with renewed hope and a focus on mission and ministry as we make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

We proudly claim that we are a people with open hearts, open minds, and open doors.
